Gary Peterson Scholarship provides financial assistance to student members of the Iowa Sports Turf Manager's Association (ISTMA) enrolled or planning to enroll in a turfgrass management program at a college or university in Iowa.

Requirements
  • This program is open to members of the ISTMA currently enrolled full-time in turfgrass management, sports turf management, or related fields at a college, university, technical school, or community college in the state.
  • High school seniors graduating from high schools in Iowa are eligible if they have been accepted to a turfgrass management program in the state.
  • Applicants must submit brief essays on why they chose their current major, their plans for the upcoming summer, where they see themselves and their career 5 years from now, a skill of turfgrass management at which they feel they excel and why, a skill of turfgrass management that they feel they need to improve and why, and some challenges facing the turfgrass industry in the future.
  • Selection is based on those essays, academic record, career preparation, potential to make an outstanding professional contribution, community involvement and volunteer activities, letters of recommendation, and completeness of the application.
