Georgia Chapter SWANA Scholarship provides financial assistance to residents of Georgia, especially children and grandchildren of members of the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA), who are interested in studying a field related to solid waste management at a college in any state.

Requirements
  • This program is open to residents of Georgia who are 1) high school seniors or graduate certified candidates who have been accepted at a 2- or 4-year college or university in any state; or 2) current full-time juniors, seniors, or graduate students working on a degree in environmental science, engineering, or other field related to solid waste management at a college or university in any state.
  • Applicants must submit a short statement of their financial need and a 1page essay on their views on solid waste management, what it is, who participates, the current issues facing the profession, and their thoughts on its future direction.
  • Selection of high school seniors and equivalents is based on the essay (20%); academics, including GPA, ACT and/or SAT scores, and academic achievement honors and awards (40%); community activities (20%); and extracurricular activities (20%).
  • Selection of current college students is based on the essay (20%); GPA (25%), other activities (25%), and relation of studies to solid waste management (30%).
  • For both categories of applicants, an additional 10% is added for children of SWANA members, and an additional 5% is added for applicants recommended by a SWANA member.
