Hanayagi Rokumie Memorial Japanese Cultural Scholarship provides financial assistance for college to student members of the Japanese American Citizens League (JACL) who are high school seniors and excel in Japanese cultural activity.

Requirements
  • This program is open to JACL members who are high school seniors interested in attending a college, university, trade school, business college, or other institution of higher learning.
  • Applicants must excel in Japanese cultural activity, including nihon buyo (classical dance); ikebana (flower arrangement); classical instruments (e.g., shamisen, koto, shakuhachi, taiko); martial arts (e.g., aikido, karate, judo kendo); or chado (tea ceremony).
  • They may study any field in college.
  • Selection is based on that essay, academic history, JACL involvement, school activities, work history, scholastic honors, and community involvement.
  • They must submit their application to the local JACL chapter to which they belong.
