Harry C. Bates U.S. Scholarship provides financial assistance to children of members of the International Union of Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers (BAC) who wish to work on a college degree.

Requirements
  • This program is open to the children (natural or legally adopted) of members of the union.
  • U.S. students must take the Preliminary Scholastic Assessment Test (PSAT/NMSQT) during their junior year in high school.
  • Students will be notified in September of their senior year if their PSAT/NMSQT results qualify them as a semifinalist.
  • Union members whose children qualify must report this information to the union.
  • The union then sends the names of eligible candidates to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).
  • The recipient of the scholarship competition is chosen by NMSC.
  • Selection is based on academic achievements, records, community involvement, volunteerism, and an essay.
