Requirements
  • This program is open to full-time rising junior and senior undergraduates at accredited colleges and universities.
  • Applicants must be working on a degree in fields that include, but are not limited to, environmental science, fisheries, forestry, natural resource management, parks and recreation, range management, or other related sciences such as biology, ecology, geology, hydrology, or zoology.
  • They may apply in either of 2 categories: 1) previous recipients of a scholarship from a chapter or division of the Izaak Walton League of America (IWLA); or 2) an individual or student IWLA member or the child or grandchild of a member.
  • Selection is based on 1) a 500word essay on their philosophy of natural resources management as a component of conservation (20%); 2) a 500-word essay on what they believe to be the most important conservation issues facing North America during the next 10 years (20%); 3) a 500-word personal statement on their career goals and objectives; 4) a list of their interests, hobbies, and leisure activities (5%); 5) a list of all conservation, environmental, wildlife, sportsmen's, community, and professional organizations to which they belong (5%); 6) a list of any conservation and environmental-related work experience (5%); 7) information on their leadership activities (10%); 8) a personal reference letter (5%); and 9) letters of recommendation from 2 faculty members (10%).
