The Joseph Näwahï Scholarship is awarded to full-time graduate students at a college or university in Hawaii. Students pursuing a degree in Hawaiian studies, politics, law, or communications/journalism with an emphasis on Hawaiian history, culture, and politics are encouraged to apply. It is the policy of the Foundation to give preference to students of Hawaiian ancestry to the extent permitted by law.

Requirements
  • Minimum 3.20 GPA
  • Resident of the U.S.
  • Graduate or law student
  • Seeking a graduate or law degree in Hawaiian studies, Hawaiian politics, law (specific to Hawaiian legal issues), or communications/journalism (specific to Hawaiian history, culture, and politics)
  • Fulltime student
  • Attending a law school or graduate school in Hawaii
  • Participation in community service or extracurricular activities
  • Demonstrate financial need Preference is given to students of Hawaiian ancestry to the extent permitted by law.
