Junior Science and Humanities Symposium Scholarship recognizes and rewards, with college scholarships, outstanding participants in the Army, Navy, and Air Force Junior Science and Humanities Symposia (JSHS).

Requirements
  • This program is open to U.S. citizens and permanent residents enrolled in grades 9-12 at public, private, or home schools who have completed an original research investigation in a field of STEM. Competitions are held in 8 categories: environmental sciences, including environmental engineering; biomedical sciences, including cell and molecular biology; life sciences; medicine and health/behavioral sciences; engineering and technology; mathematics, computer science, computer engineering; physical sciences, including physics, astronomy, and the Internet of things; and chemistry, including physical chemistry, materials science, alternative fuels, and geochemistry.
  • Students present their findings at a regional symposium, held on a university campus in their area.
  • At each regional symposium, selected paper presenters are chosen to receive scholarships.
  • From each of the 48 regional symposia, 5 students are selected to attend the national JSHS, where the regional first and second-place finishers present their research in an oral competition and the third-, fourth-, and fifth-place finishers present their research in a poster competition.
