About the Scholarship

The Makuakāne Inspirational Educator Scholarship is awarded to undergraduate or graduate students pursuing a career in education or the Hawaiian language. Students who reside in Hawaii and attend a school in the state are encouraged to apply. Students with prior teaching experience in Hawaiian language schools/programs receive special consideration. It is also the policy of the Foundation to give preference to students of Hawaiian ancestry to the extent permitted by law.

  • Undergraduate or graduate student
  • Seeking an associate, bachelor's, or graduate degree at a college or university in Hawaii
  • Full or parttime student
  • Pursuing a career in education or Hawaii language
  • Participation in community service or extracurricular activities Preference is given to students with prior teaching experience in Hawaiian language and to students of Hawaiian ancestry to the extent permitted by law.
