The Mattie and Hayward J. Benson and Benson Family Scholarship is awarded to graduates of Broward County public high schools in Florida. Students pursuing a degree or certification in education, music or art, public administration, or law are encouraged to apply. Special consideration is given to United States-born African American, first-generation college students attending either Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee, or Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, Florida.
