About the Scholarship

The McKeon Scholarship provides financial assistance for college in any state to residents of downstate Illinois who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (LGBT), allies, or children of LGBT parents attending or planning to attend a postsecondary institution. Students who participate in political advocacy, community service, or extracurricular activities are encouraged to apply.

  • Resident of Illinois (all counties except Cook, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, and Will)
  • Attending or planning to attend a trade/technical school, 2, or 4-year college or university
  • High school senior or undergraduate student
  • Seeking a professional certification, associate, or bachelor's degree
  • LGBTQIA+, allies, or children of LGBTQIA+ parents
  • Participation in political advocacy, community service, or extracurricular activities
  • Exhibit strong academic achievement
