The Michael Buckner Scholarship supports incoming freshmen at Western Carolina University. Students who participate in the Pride of the Mountains Marching Band are welcome to apply, particularly students from Smoky Mountain High School in Sylva, North Carolina. If no qualifying student is selected from Smoky Mountain High School, priority is given to those from high schools in western North Carolina.
