Mid-Atlantic Chapter SWANA Scholarship provides financial assistance to residents of Delaware, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. who have ties to the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) and are interested in working on an undergraduate or graduate degree in a field related to solid waste management at a college in any state.

Requirements
  • This program is open to the children and grandchildren of members of the SWANA Mid-Atlantic Chapter; children and grandchildren of employees in the solid waste field in Delaware, Maryland, or Washington, D.C. who are sponsored by a chapter member; Mid-Atlantic chapter members; and employees in the solid waste field in Delaware, Maryland, or Washington, D.C. Applicants must be 1) high school seniors or graduate certified candidates who have been accepted at a 2- or 4-year college or university in any state; 2) freshmen currently enrolled full-time at a 2- or 4-year college or university in any state or students reentering college as sophomores; 3) current full-time students entering their junior or senior year and working on a degree in environmental science, engineering, or other field related to solid waste management at a college or university in any state; or 4) current full-time graduate students working on a degree in environmental science, engineering, or other field related to solid waste management at a college or university in any state.
  • Selection of high school seniors and equivalents is based on the quality of their written discussion (10%); academics, including GPA, ACT and/or SAT scores, and academic achievement honors and awards (40%), community activities (25%), and extracurricular activities (25%); selection of entering sophomores is based on the quality of their written discussion (10%); academics, including GPA, ACT and/or SAT scores, and academic achievement honors and awards (50%), community activities (20%), and extracurricular activities (20%).
  • Selection of entering juniors and seniors is based on GPA (30%), other activities (20%), and relation of studies to solid waste management (50%).
  • Selection of graduate students is based on GPA (30%), other activities (10%), and relation of studies to solid waste management (60%).
