Military Spouses of Newport Freshman Scholarship provides financial assistance for college in any state to high school seniors in Rhode Island whose parent has a tie to a military base in the state.

Requirements

This program is open to graduating high school seniors who plan to enroll at an accredited 2- or 4-year college or university in any state.

Applicants must be dependent children possessing a valid military ID card of 1) activeduty military personnel (any branch, officer, or enlisted) attached to a base in Rhode Island); 2) retired military (any branch, officer or enlisted) previously attached to a base in Rhode Island; or 3) deceased military, while on active duty or paid retired status (any branch, officer or enlisted) previously attached to a base in Rhode Island.

Selection is based on the essays; academic achievement (based on transcripts with a GPA of 2.5 or higher and ACT/SAT scores); schoolsponsored extracurricular activities; community service; achievements and leadership qualities; and letters of recommendation.
