About the Scholarship

The Mitchell D. Hoyl/Paul A. Patacchiola Scholarship in Biology is available to full-time undergraduate or graduate students at Appalachian State University seeking a degree in biology with a specialization in ecology and environmental biology or teaching. Applicants must demonstrate ancestry in North Carolina with a progenitor established in the state no later than 1860. If no eligible applicant meets this criterion, consideration may be extended to those with ancestry in South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, or Mississippi. Recipients are chosen for their academic focus and qualifying heritage.
