OCA-NJ Essay Scholarship recognizes and rewards, with college scholarships, high school seniors in New Jersey who are of Asian American descent and submit outstanding essays on Asian American topics.

Requirements
  • This competition is open to seniors graduating from high schools in New Jersey who are of Asian American descent.
  • Applicants must be planning to attend a college or university in any state.
  • They must submit a 2page essay on a topic that changes annually but relates to being an Asian American.
  • They must also provide personal information and a list of extracurricular activities.
  • Selection is based on the essay (30%), membership activities of the sponsoring organization (20%), academics (10%), a letter of recommendation (10%), community service and civic engagement (10%), leadership (10%), and work experience and extracurricular activities (10%).
  • Recipients must attend the sponsor's Asian American Heritage Month luncheon in May to accept the award.
