The Powers Scholarship for Avery County Schools is awarded to graduating seniors of Avery County High School, UNC School of the Arts, or NC School of Science and Mathematics, and a home school area. Students who are seeking a bachelor's degree on a full-time basis in an engineering or technical field are encouraged to apply. Special consideration is given to students who demonstrate financial need and to male and female students in alternating years.

  • Studying in an engineering or technical field, including biotechnology, computer science, electrical or computer engineering technology, electrical engineering, or engineering technology
  • Plan to attend a 4year college or university
  • Participation in community service, extracurricular activities, leadership, or work
  • Exhibit strong moral character and academic achievement Preference is given to students who demonstrate financial need and to male and female students in alternating years.
