Requirements

This program is open to high school seniors and full-time undergraduate or graduate students who are of Native Hawaiian descent (descendants of the aboriginal inhabitants of the Hawaiian Islands prior to 1778).

Graduating high school seniors and current undergraduate students must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher; graduate students must have at least a 3.3 GPA. Along with their application, they must submit an essay on a topic that changes annually; recently, students were asked to write on the Hawaiian issue that influenced their decision to pursue their course of study at a college or university.

Priority is given to members of the Prince Kuhi'o Hawaiian Civic Club in good standing, including directlyrelated family members.

Special consideration is given to applicants majoring in Hawaiian studies and culture, Hawaiian language, education, or journalism.

Selection is based on academic achievement and leadership potential.
