About the Scholarship

The Roan Scholars Program is open to graduating seniors who may either be graduating from any high school in Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, or Virginia or be nominated by designated high schools and homeschooled students in selected counties of western North Carolina, northeastern Tennessee, or southwestern Virginia. Those not nominated by their high school may still submit an application. Students who are interested in attending East Tennessee State University are welcome to apply. Applicants will be reviewed for their academic success, participation and leadership in school and community activities, and ability to overcome obstacles to be successful.

Requirements
  • Minimum 3.00 GPA
  • Minimum SAT composite score of 1060 or minimum ACT composite score of 21
  • Graduating senior from any high school in Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Caroline, Tennessee, or Virginia **or**
  • Nominated by a high school in North Carolina (Ashe, Avery, Buncombe, Haywood, Madison, Mitchell, Watauga, or Yancey counties), Tennessee (Carter, Claiborne, Cocke, Grainger, Greene, Jefferson, Hamblen, Hancock, Hawkins, Johnson, Sevier, Sullivan, Unicoi, Union, or Washington counties), or Virginia (Grayson, Lee, Scott, or Washington counties)
  • Seeking bachelor's degree at East Tennessee State University
  • U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen
  • Participate in extracurricular activities and community service
  • Determination to overcome obstacles and succeed
