The Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (SMART) Scholarship for Service provides scholarship experience to undergraduate and graduate students in designated STEM disciplines that are of interest to the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD).

Requirements
  • Minimum 3.00 GPA
  • Resident of the U.S., Canada, Australia, or New Zealand
  • Undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral student
  • Seeking a bachelor's, graduate degree, or Ph.D
  • Studying aeronautical and astronautical engineering; biosciences; biomedical engineering; chemical engineering; chemistry; civil engineering; cognitive, neural, and behavioral sciences; computer and computational sciences and computer engineering; electrical engineering; environmental sciences; geosciences, including terrain, water, and air; industrial and systems engineering (technical tracks only); information sciences; materials science and engineering; mathematics; mechanical engineering; naval architecture and ocean engineering; nuclear engineering, oceanography; operations research (technical tracks only); or physics
  • Fulltime student
  • Attend a college or university in the U.S.
  • Citizen of the United States, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, or the United Kingdom
  • Aged 18 or older
  • Complete summer internships for awards and commit to a onefor-one post-graduation service as a civilian employee of the Department of Defense
