The Summer Health Professions Education Program is available to college freshmen and sophomores who are high school graduates or GED recipients. Students interested in learning about health professions during a summer academic enrichment program at designated universities are eligible to apply. Special consideration is given to students from economically or educationally disadvantaged backgrounds, or those interested in underserved populations.

Requirements
  • Minimum 2.50 GPA
  • Resident of the U.S.
  • College freshman or sophomore
  • High school graduate or GED recipient
  • Seeking a bachelor's degree
  • Studying medicine, dentistry, nursing, optometry, pharmacy, physical therapy, public health, or healthcare professionrelated
  • Planning to attend a summer session at select schools in Birmingham, Alabama; Los Angeles or Pomona, California; District of Columbia; Gainesville, Florida; Iowa City, Iowa; Louisville, Kentucky; Omaha, Nebraska; Newark, New Jersey; New York; Houston, Texas;or Seattle, Washington
  • U.S. citizen, conditional permanent resident, current DACA status, pending DACA application, or permanent resident Preference is given to students from economically or educationally disadvantaged backgrounds, or those interested in underserved populations.
