The Troy Barboza Educational Scholarship is to provide education and training assistance for public employees (and their dependents) who have been killed or injured in the line of duty. The employee's position must be one in which lives are risked for the protection of others (i.e. police officers, firefighters, lifeguards, etc.). Additionally, awards may also be used for Hawaii residents who have performed heroic or other noteworthy acts that provide for the protection and safety of others.

Requirements
  • Dependent or immediate family member of a Hawaii public employee killed or injured in the line of duty, **OR**
  • Past or present public employee injured in the line of duty, **OR**
  • Performed heroic act which provided for the protection and safety of others
  • Minimum 2.00 GPA
  • Resident of Hawaii
  • High school senior, undergraduate, or graduate student
  • Seeking a professional certification, associate, bachelor's, or graduate degree
  • Demonstrate financial need Preference for recipients who were awarded in the immediate prior year.
