Yawkey Scholars Scholarship for Massachusetts provides financial assistance to high school seniors in Massachusetts who plan to attend a private university in the state.
This program is open to seniors graduating from high schools in Massachusetts and planning to attend a private 4-year college or university in the state.
Applicants must be engaged in a sustained mentoring program with an adult teacher, coach, employer, pastor or clergy member, or other nonfamily members on whom the student depends for advice or counsel.
They must be able to demonstrate financial need with an expected family contribution (based on their FAFSA) of less than $6,000 and a family income of less than $75,000.
They must also submit 3 short essays of up to 200 words each on 1) why they wish to attend their first choice college or university, including how it relates to their career objectives; 2) their relationship with their mentor and how that relationship has been helpful to them, and 3) a significant challenge they have experienced or a circumstance that has impacted their life.
Selection is based on financial need; academic record or demonstration of significant improvement over time; involvement in a balance of community, school, and work activities; leadership potential; and desire to make a meaningful contribution to the community, both present and in the future.
