BigFuture Teacher Visionary Award Official Rules
NO PURCHASE OR PAYMENT OF ANY KIND IS NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. A PURCHASE OR PAYMENT WILL NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING. Void where prohibited by law. This Program is subject to all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and ordinances.
College Board BigFuture Teacher Visionary Award (“Award”) begins on February 28, 2024 at 12:00:01 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (“EST”) and ends on March 17, 2024 at 11:59:59 p.m. EST. During that window, nominations will be accepted for classroom teachers currently teaching in secondary school (typically defined as grades 9 through 12). They must be employed by (a) a public, private, or home school high school located in one of the fifty (50) United States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa, the Northern Mariana Islands, or any other U.S. territories and possessions, or is a U.S. Citizen or resident and teaches at a U.S. Department of Defense Education Activity (“DoDEA”) school outside of the United States and U.S. territories.
College Board (“Sponsor”)’s computer is the official timekeeping device for this Program.
Employees of College Board or immediate families (spouse, parents, children, and siblings and their spouses) of employees of College Board and its advertising and promotion agencies and members are not eligible.
How to Enter
Educators and students are encouraged to nominate a teacher or, in the case of a teacher participant, self-nominate. Educators and students wishing to nominate or self-nominate may view the entry form questions at BigFuture Teacher Visionary Award Nominations. Participants must submit the entry form, which includes basic information on the nominee and the nominator as well as guidelines for answering the nomination question: “Why should this nominee win the award?”. Nominators may submit their answer either by written response or by video, as per the instructions in the entry form. Entry forms may be submitted online from February 28, 2024, until 11:59 p.m. March 17, 2024. Only timely submitted entries will be eligible to win.
A person submitting a nomination on behalf of a teacher must currently be age 13 or older and satisfy all eligibility requirements.
No mass-produced or photocopied entries will be accepted. Entries that are incomplete, illegible or damaged are void and will not be accepted or eligible. Only legible and complete entry forms will be accepted and eligible. Sponsor is not responsible for misdirected, lost, late or damaged entries. All entries become the property of the Sponsor and will not be acknowledged or returned.
Alternate Means of Entry
As an alternative to entering pursuant to the paragraph above, the person nominating a teacher may enter by mailing (written applications only) all requested information to BigFuture Teacher Visionary Award, P.O. Box 255505, Miami, FL 33152. Entries submitted by this alternative method must be received by March 17, 2024.
Judging
A College Board assembled panel will determine the three winners using a rubric and a set of judging criteria including but not limited to: specificity of examples of projects that teachers facilitate to support college and career planning in class; examples of how teachers use BigFuture to help students plan for life after high school; examples of how the projects inspire students to plan for their future; authenticity, originality, and wow factor of submission.
Publicity And Other Consent
Participants that nominate teachers agree and give full and complete permission to be photographed and recorded (sound and/or picture) that will be provided to College Board for use by College Board in various College Board organic and paid marketing and social media purposes. For the purposes of this release, these photographs and recordings are referred to as “Images.”
By submitting a nomination form, nominators grant College Board and its designees, affiliates and licensees (collectively “College Board”) the right to use, edit, reproduce, broadcast, publish, exhibit, publicize, and otherwise exploit and distribute, without compensation, any Images, along with name (“Identity”) and any statements and/or comments made in organic and paid marketing and social media purposes and in other formats and mediums now known or hereafter developed. The rights granted to College Board are perpetual and worldwide.
Except where prohibited by law, participation in the BigFuture Teacher Visionary Award constitutes each winner’s consent to Sponsor’s (and its designees’, successors’ and assigns’) use or distribution of winner’s name, biography, likeness, voice, photographs, video, opinions, statements, hometown, state and country of residence, high school, school district and entry for promotional, advertising, research and other purposes (including in communicating with their school and school district regarding receipt of award) in any manner or media (including, without limitation, online, on websites and in social media), worldwide, in perpetuity, and without further payment, consideration, notice, review or consent.
Winner Notification
Winners will be notified by telephone, mail, and/or email in May 2024, and provided with a request to execute and return an Affidavit of Eligibility and Liability and, unless prohibited, Publicity Release and W-9 form within seven (7) days of the date of notification.
PRIZES: The three teachers selected by a College Board assembled panel will be the winners. The winning teachers will receive $1000 and will be featured on bigfuture.org and local news media. All prizes are non-transferable. All federal, state, and local taxes are the sole responsibility of the winners. The winner may not substitute, assign or transfer a prize, but Sponsor reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to substitute a prize of comparable or greater value. All prize details are at Sponsor’s sole discretion.
Release of Liability
By participating, each entrant (and, if a minor, their parent or legal guardian) agrees to release, discharge, and hold harmless Sponsor (and advertising and promotion agencies), and the respective officers, directors, shareholders, employees, agents, and representatives of the forgoing (collectively, “Released Parties”) from any and all injuries, liability, losses, and damages of any kind to persons, including death, or property resulting, in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from student’s participation in the Award or any Award Program-related activity or the acceptance, possession, use, or misuse of any awarded prize.
Miscellaneous
Sponsor reserves the right to withdraw the transmission of this promotion and award the prizes from among the eligible nominations received prior to the date of the withdrawal. Entrants agree to abide by these Official Rules and by the decisions of the judges, whose decisions are final. Failure to comply with these rules may result in disqualification from this promotion. Sponsor reserves the right to permanently disqualify from this promotion any person it believes has violated these rules.
If for any reason the contest is not capable of being conducted as planned due to any cause beyond the control of Sponsor, including but not limited to any event or cause which corrupts or affects the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the promotion, Sponsor reserves the right at its sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the contest and disqualify any individual who may have caused any such problem. Sponsor assumes no responsibility for any theft or destruction, unauthorized access to, or alteration of entries. Sponsor assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction, unauthorized access to, or alteration of entries. Sponsor is not responsible for any problem or technical malfunctions of any telephone network or lines, computer online systems, servers or provider, computer equipment, software, failure of any entry to be received by Sponsor on account of technical problems or delays, including any injury or damage to participant’s or any other person’s computer related to or resulting from participation or downloading any materials in this contest.
CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT BY ANY PERSON TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE ANY WEB SITE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THIS CONTEST IS A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, SPONSOR RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES FROM ANY SUCH PERSON TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.
Issues of Law
By entering, each entrant agrees that (a) any and all disputes, claims, and causes of action arising out of or in connection with the Contest, or any prize awarded, shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, and any judicial proceeding shall take place in a federal or state court within the State of New York; (b) EACH ENTRANT EXPRESSLY WAIVES THE RIGHT TO HAVE ANY ACTION OR PROCEEDING RELATING TO THE CONTEST HEARD BEFORE A JURY; (c) any and all claims, judgments, and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, including costs associated with entering the Contest, and in no event will contestant be entitled to received attorneys' fees or other legal costs; and (d) under no circumstances will entrant be permitted to obtain awards for, and contestant hereby waives all rights to claim, punitive, incidental, and consequential damages, and any other damages, other than for actual out-of-pocket expenses, and any and all rights to have damages multiplied or otherwise increased. All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Official Rules, or the rights and obligations of contestant and Sponsor in connection with the Contest, shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of New York, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules or provisions (whether of the State of New York or any other jurisdiction), that would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other than the State of New York. The Contest is void where prohibited or restricted by law.
The invalidity or unenforceability of any provision of these rules shall not affect the validity or enforceability of any other provision. In the event that any provision is determined to be invalid or otherwise unenforceable or illegal, these rules shall otherwise remain in effect and shall be construed in accordance with their terms as if the invalid or illegal provision were not contained herein.
IN NO EVENT SHALL SPONSOR BE LIABLE FOR ANY CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, EVEN IF IT HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF THE DAMAGES. IN ANY EVENT THE MAXIMUM AGGREGATE LIABILITY OF SPONSOR TO ANY PERSON DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY RELATING TO THIS CONTEST, PROMOTION OR THE AWARD, USE OR ENJOYMENT OF ANY PRIZE SHALL NOT EXCEED THE SUM OF $10.00.
