Founded in 1893, Aurora University is a private, co-educational, independent university nestled in a residential neighborhood in Aurora, IL, the state's second-largest city. AU's 4,000 undergraduate students choose from more than 50 majors and minors, including programs in business, criminal justice, education, nursing, social work, and the liberal arts. Students receive personal attention and individualized instruction from dedicated and experienced professors who help them to discover what matters and build their lives around it. Faculty members are both accessible teachers and distinguished scholars. They share their experiences and knowledge with students in ways that have immediate application to their field of study. Students also work with dedicated advisors throughout their college experience to chart an academic path, explore career options, and ensure that graduation always remains in sight. Aurora University Extracurricular Opportunities There's always something to do at AU. Students choose from more than 50 student clubs, including professional, literary, religious, social, and service organizations. Whether singing in the University Chorale, performing in a theater production or volunteering at a local organization, students enhance their classroom experiences with opportunities to pursue their passions and have fun. Leadership development is also a hallmark of AU extracurricular experiences. Students gain the skills that will help them be successful in future careers as resident assistants (RAs), peer mentors, Spartan interns, or LEAD program participants. Aurora University's student-athletes compete at a high level in 24 NCAA Division III athletic programs and three club sports. Since joining the NCAA in 1982, AU has won 196 conference championships and made 189 post-season championship appearances. AU reviews applications as they are completed and students are notified about admissions decisions throughout the admission cycle. Traditional undergraduate students who have a strong desire to attend Aurora University are encouraged to apply early in their senior year.
