From the Institution

Lamar State College Port Arthur (LSCPA) is a two-year, state-supported institution located in Port Arthur, an industrial and cultural center of southeast Texas. The campus is located near downtown Port Arthur and sits adjacent and parallel to the Intercoastal Canal. Our Mission is to provide a learning experience that prepare students to continue their education or enter the workforce. And one of the College's goals is to provide educational opportunities flexible in scheduling, location, delivery method and content. Course offerings are either on-line or face-to-face. The College offers freshman and sophomore level work in numerous academic and technical disciplines which leads towards an Associate or Certificate Degree. In 2019, LSCPA was awarded a Title V Grant from the U.S. Department of Education with the distinction as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI). In addition, LSCPA have agreements with several school districts in the area to offer dual credit courses for high school students. Also, LSCPA have a partnership with the Port Arthur Independent School District (PAISD) that enroll students in the Early College High School (ECHS) Initiative program where the student earns a high school diploma and a post-secondary credential simultaneously. Likewise, the institution also has educational contracts with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ), and the Federal Bureau of Prisons to offer technical, academic, and vocational courses respectively at the State and Federal Correctional Facilities in our area. The College also has a Division I intercollegiate athletic programs: men's basketball and women's softball which is part of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
