The University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) is a comprehensive regional university that perfectly blends the benefits of a great location, active learning, and meaningful research on a medium-sized campus that is part of the University of Minnesota System. Providing an alternative to both large research universities and small liberal arts colleges, UMD attracts students looking for a personalized learning experience on a medium-sized campus of a major university. UMD students come from a variety of places and backgrounds to find an array of undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs that provide plenty of opportunities for learning and discovery. Students can choose from 87 undergraduate and post-baccalaureate degrees, and graduate programs in more than 24 fields. The University of Minnesota Medical School and the University of Minnesota College of Pharmacy both have programs on the UMD campus. In addition to offering the EdD, UMD participates in two University of Minnesota System PhD programs and cooperates significantly in the delivery of a number of U of M Twin Cities-based PhD programs. Campus consists of more than 50 buildings on 244 acres overlooking Lake Superior. Most UMD buildings are connected by concourses or hallways, providing improved accessibility and convenience for all students year round. UMD is also home for the Tweed Museum of Art, the Marshall W. Alworth Planetarium, and the Marshall Performing Arts Center. Other facilities include the Research and Field Studies Center, Glensheen Historic Estate, the Large Lakes Observatory, and the Natural Resources Research Institute. UMD is dedicated to student success through robust support services, including academic advising, tutoring, career counseling, and mental health resources. Sustainability is also a core focus, with numerous initiatives and sustainability-focused courses and communities promoting environmental responsibility on campus. Our community stays active with 260 student organizations, 16 NCAA sports, and 60 acres of forested trails on the campus' Bagley Nature Area. On the western shore of Lake Superior, Bulldogs get the benefits of city life, while enjoying endless access to the great outdoors. In Duluth, it's just as easy to enjoy museums, restaurants, and live music, as it is to hike, ski, or kayak.
