BigFuture Decision Day Social Media Contest Official Rules. NO PURCHASE IS NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN.

The BigFuture Decision Day Social Media Contest ("Contest") starts on May 1, 2023 at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time (“ET”). All entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. ET on May 31, 2023.

By participating, each entrant (and, if a minor, their parent or legal guardian) agrees to abide by these Official Rules and decisions of College Board (“Sponsor”) and judges, which shall be final and binding in all respects relating to this Contest.

CONTEST OVERVIEW: May 1st is the annual deadline for students to notify colleges that they will be attending their institution. BigFuture (powered by the College Board) is doing a contest to encourage students to share a video post (an “Entry”) of their Decision Day story on Instagram and TikTok with the hashtags #collegiance #CollegeBoardContest as in “Pledge your #collegiance #CollegeBoardContest”. Entries will be viewable on social media channels.

ELIGIBILITY: The Contest is open to individuals 16 and older who are legal residents of the fifty (50) United States and the District of Columbia who will be attending college (including community college, vocational-technical and career colleges) for the first time in the fall of 2023. A minor must have their parent’s or legal guardian’s permission to enter. Children of employees, officers and trustees of Sponsor and its advertising and promotion agencies, if any, and their immediate family members (spouse, parents, children and siblings) and household members (whether related or not) of such employees, officers and trustees are not eligible to enter. Void where prohibited by law and outside the United States. Contest is subject to all applicable federal, state, and local laws.

HOW TO ENTER:

  • Step 1: Create a video celebrating your college decision. The video must be 60 seconds or less. You may use music and sounds available in the Instagram and TikTok libraries or original music or sounds. See more prohibited content below.)
  • Step 2: Share the video in your Instagram or TikTok feed using the hashtags #collegiance #BigFutureContest by 11:59 p.m. ET on May 31, 2023. All required hashtags must be used to be eligible.

If you do not have an Instagram or TikTok account, establishing an account is free. All Instagram and TikTok terms and conditions apply. Your Instagram and TikTok accounts must be set to “public” in order for your Submission to be considered. You can make your Instagram or TikTok account “private” any time after the conclusion of the Contest when the winners are announced.

Limit one (1) Entry per person/Instagram/TikTok account. Entries received from any person or Instagram or TikTok account in excess of this limitation will be void. Entries generated by script, macro or other automated means or by any means which subvert the entry process are void. All Entries become the sole property of the Sponsor and will not be returned.

PROHIBITED CONTENT: As determined by the Sponsor, in its sole discretion:

  • Entry may not use copyrighted music that is not available on Instagram or TikTok;
  • Entry may not contain content that is derogatory of any ethnic, racial, gender, religion, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, or age group;
  • Entry may not contain profane, pornographic, obscene, or offensive content or endorse any form of hate or hate group;
  • Entry may not contain nudity;
  • Entry may not defame, misrepresent or contain disparaging remarks about any person or entity, including, without limitation, Sponsor (and its products or services);
  • Entry may not contain trademarks, logos, or trade dress owned by others without permission, to the extent permission is necessary;
  • Entry may not contain copyrighted materials owned by others (such as photographs, footage, sculptures, paintings, texts, and other works of art or images) without permission, to the extent permission is necessary;
  • Entry may not contain materials embodying the names, likenesses, voices, or other indicia identifying any person (living or dead), such as license plate numbers, personal names, e-mail addresses, or street addresses, including, without limitation, celebrities and/or other public or private figures, without permission, to the extent permission is necessary;
  • Entry must not have been previously published or won previous awards;
  • Entry must not infringe upon the copyrights, trademarks, rights of privacy, publicity or other intellectual property or other rights of any person or entity without permission, to the extent such permission is necessary; and/or
  • Entry may not contain contents that violate any law.

By submitting their Entry, each entrant affirms and represents that they have the express permission of each individual (and such individual’s parent or legal guardian, if applicable) appearing or identifiable in the Entry to permit the use and exhibition of the Entry by Sponsor in the manner set forth in these Official Rules. Sponsor reserves the right at any time to request any entrant proof of these permissions in a form acceptable to Sponsor. Failure to provide such proof may render the Entry null and void. By submitting an entry, the entrant (and, if a minor, their parent or legal guardian) warrants and represents that they and, if applicable, any person who filmed the video, consents to the submission and use of the entry in the Contest and the grant of rights set forth herein.

By submitting an Entry, entrant (and, if a minor, their parent or legal guardian) represents and warrants that the Entry conforms to these Official Rules and understands that Sponsor, in its sole discretion, may disqualify the Entry for any reason, including if it determines, in its sole discretion, that the Entry fails to conform to these Official Rules.

JUDGING: All eligible Entries received by Sponsor will be judged by a panel of professional educators, including film and media professors, based on the following criteria, with each criterion weighted equally: Aesthetic, Creativity, Engagement, Authenticity, Originality, and Wow Factor (collectively, “Judging Criteria”). Two (2) winners will be selected from among all eligible Entries received – Grand Prize Video and Runner-up Video. In addition, eight (8) finalists will be determined from all remaining eligible Entries. In the event of a tie for any prize, an additional, “tie-breaking” judge will determine the winner based on the Judging Criteria. Sponsor reserves the right not to award a prize if, in its sole discretion, it does not receive a sufficient number of eligible and qualified Entries for that prize. All decisions of the Sponsor and judges are final and binding. Sponsor will not reveal the judging scores for any Entry.

WINNER NOTIFICATION: Potential winners (and, if a minor, their parent or legal guardian) will be notified by telephone, mail, and/or email in June 2023, and provided with a request to execute and return an Affidavit of Eligibility and Liability and, unless prohibited, Publicity Release and W-9 form within seven (7) days of the date of notification. Potential winners may also be required to provide proof of college acceptance in a form acceptable to Sponsor. Return of notification as undeliverable, failure to provide, sign and return requested documentation within the specified time period, the inability of Sponsor to contact a potential winner within a reasonable time period, or noncompliance with these Official Rules by a potential winner will result in disqualification and, at Sponsor’s sole discretion, an alternative winner may be selected in accordance with the Judging Criteria described above.

PRIZES: Grand Prize Video: $10,000 will be awarded to one (1) winner.Runner-Up Video: $5,000 will be awarded to one (1) winner.Finalists: $1,000 awarded to each of eight (8) winners. Prizes may be used by winners to pay for tuition, books, or other educational materials. All federal, state, and local taxes are the sole responsibility of the winners. The winner may not substitute, assign or transfer a prize, but Sponsor reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to substitute a prize of comparable or greater value. All prize details are at Sponsor’s sole discretion. Limit one (1) prize per person/Instagram/TikTok account.

USE OF ENTRIES: By submitting an Entry, each entrant (and, if a minor, their parent or legal guardian) grants Sponsor and its designees, assigns, licensees and successors a perpetual, worldwide, irrevocable license to exploit, edit, modify, and distribute the Entry and all elements of such Entry, including, the entrant’s name, voice, performance, city and state of residence and likeness (including, but not limited to, Instagram profile photo), for advertising, promotion, trade and other purposes, in any and all media, now or hereafter devised, in any manner, in whole or in part, together with other materials, without additional compensation or notification to, or permission from, entrant, their parent or legal guardian or any third party.

PUBLICITY GRANT: By participating, each entrant (and, if a minor, their parent or legal guardian) agrees and grants the right, except where prohibited by law, to the use by Sponsor and its designees of their name, voice, city and state of residence, attending college, photograph (including, but not limited to, Instagram /TikTok profile photo), e-mail address, biographical information, entry form information and/or written and oral statements, likeness and Entry, for advertising, promotional and other purposes, in any and all media, now or hereafter known, worldwide and on the Internet, and in perpetuity, without compensation (unless prohibited by law) or additional consents from the entrant, their parent or legal guardian or any third party and without prior notice, approval or inspection, and to execute specific consent to such use if asked to do so.

RELEASE OF LIABILITY: By participating, each entrant (and, if a minor, their parent or legal guardian) agrees to release, discharge, and hold harmless Sponsor, Instagram, LLC, TikTok and their respective parents, affiliates and subsidiaries, the Contest judges, and advertising and promotion agencies, and the respective officers, directors, shareholders, employees, agents and representatives of the foregoing (collectively, “Released Parties”) from any and all injuries, liability, losses, and damages of any kind to persons, including death, or property resulting, in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from student’s participation in the Contest or any Contest-related activity or the acceptance, possession, use or misuse of any awarded prize. Released Parties are not responsible for lost, late, incomplete, damaged, inaccurate, illegible, stolen, delayed, misdirected, undelivered, or garbled Entries; or for lost, interrupted or unavailable network, server, Internet Service Provider (ISP), website, or other connections, availability or accessibility or miscommunications or failed computer, satellite, telephone or cable transmissions, lines, or technical failure or jumbled, scrambled, delayed, or misdirected transmissions or computer hardware or software malfunctions, failures or difficulties, or other errors or difficulties of any kind whether human, mechanical, electronic, computer, network, typographical, printing or otherwise relating to or in connection with the Contest, including, without limitation, errors or difficulties which may occur in connection with the administration of the Contest, the processing or judging of entries, the announcement of the prizes, or in any Contest-related materials. Persons who tamper with or abuse any aspect of the Contest, who act in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner or who are in violation of these Official Rules, as solely determined by Sponsor, will be disqualified and all associated entries will be void. Should any portion of the Contest be, in Sponsor’s sole opinion, compromised by non-authorized human intervention or other causes which, in the sole opinion of the Sponsor, corrupt or impair the administration, security, fairness or proper play, or submission of entries, Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to suspend, modify or terminate the Contest and, if terminated, at its discretion, award the prizes from among all non-suspect, eligible entries received up to the time of such action using the judging procedure outlined above or as otherwise deemed fair and appropriate by Sponsor.

CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE CONTEST MAY BE IN VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, SPONSOR RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES AND OTHER REMEDIES (INCLUDING ATTORNEYS’ FEES) FROM ANY SUCH INDIVIDUAL TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW, INCLUDING CRIMINAL PROSECUTION.

ISSUES OF LAW: By entering, each entrant agrees that (a) any and all disputes, claims, and causes of action arising out of or in connection with the Contest, or any prize awarded, shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, and any judicial proceeding shall take place in a federal or state court within the State of New York; (b) EACH ENTRANT EXPRESSLY WAIVES THE RIGHT TO HAVE ANY ACTION OR PROCEEDING RELATING TO THE CONTEST HEARD BEFORE A JURY; (c) any and all claims, judgments, and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, including costs associated with entering the Contest, and in no event will contestant be entitled to received attorneys' fees or other legal costs; and (d) under no circumstances will entrant be permitted to obtain awards for, and contestant hereby waives all rights to claim, punitive, incidental, and consequential damages, and any other damages, other than for actual out-of-pocket expenses, and any and all rights to have damages multiplied or otherwise increased. All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Official Rules, or the rights and obligations of contestant and Sponsor in connection with the Contest, shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of New York, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules or provisions (whether of the State of New York or any other jurisdiction), that would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other than the State of New York. The Contest is void where prohibited or restricted by law.

USE OF DATA: Sponsor may collect personal data about entrants in accordance with its privacy policy. Please review College Board’s privacy policy at https://privacy.collegeboard.org By participating in the Contest, entrants hereby agree to Sponsor’s collection and usage of their personal information and acknowledge that they have read and accepted Sponsor’s privacy policy.

REQUEST FOR WINNERS' LIST: The winners’ names will be announced in June 2023 on the College Board and/or BigFuture website.
