Political Science and Government

A general program that focuses on the systematic study of political institutions and behavior. Includes instruction in political philosophy, political theory, comparative government and politics, political parties and interest groups, public opinion, political research methods, studies of the government and politics of specific countries, and studies of specific political institutions and processes.

What do these phrases have to do with political science and government? 

Plenty. They’re commonly used terms to describe conditions or individuals in politics. For example, “lame duck refers to someone who will be out of office. “Grown in office” describes elected officials who have adopted different principles than the ones that got them elected. “Inside the beltway” is used for issues that concern government officials more than the public.

You’ll learn more than political science jargon as you dive into your studies. You’ll learn about the inner workings of politics and government and how power is wielded by various parties to get what they want. You’ll develop research and analytical skills to gather data and test hypotheses throughout your studies.
