Alvernia is a private liberal arts university guided by Franciscan values that serves a diverse student body of about 2,500 students from 31 states and 19 countries. Alvernia empowers students to discover their passion for life while providing the education to turn what they love into lifetimes of career success and personal fulfillment. Alvernia offers more than 50 in-demand undergraduate majors and minors including engineering, business, communication, criminal justice, social work, psychology and a comprehensive health sciences program that includes nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, athletic training, a physician assistant program, as well as tracks for pre-med, pre-dental, pre-pharmacy and pre-optometry studies. Alvernia offers students a unique blend of a rigorous liberal arts core for development of the mind, strong technical training in high-demand majors, experiential learning through study abroad and internship experiences, and community engagement through our service model. The university refers to this as the Alvernia Advantage, and believes it transforms students into ethical leaders with moral courage. Students benefit from faculty who are accomplished scholars and supportive mentors and enjoy the personal attention afforded by small class sizes and real-world application of their studies via an extensive network of field experiences, internships, and service projects. Alvernia's most recent initiative extends its main campus to the City of Reading, with a dynamic metropolitan complex in the heart of Reading CollegeTowne. The new complex houses the university's expanded business and communication programs, new industrial, electrical and mechanical engineering programs, a trading floor, state of the art studio, esports suite and modern student residences. It's also home to Alvernia's Opake Institute's business incubator, which provides opportunities for students to work with businesses and entrepreneurs in the community. Alvernia's student athletes enjoy the competition of over 20 NCAA Division III intercollegiate sports, with the most recent additions of Men's Ice Hockey and Women's Wrestling.
