Our purpose is to enhance the quality of life of the most diverse, urban, industrialized region of the state. We engage the community in high-quality teaching and scholarship. We partner with communities to impact and promote social, economic, and cultural development. We inspire and empower a diverse body of students to be active citizens, who apply their knowledge to transform their communities and the world. One of five regional campuses of Indiana University, IU Northwest is in metropolitan Northwest Indiana, approximately 30 miles southeast of Chicago and 10 miles from the Indiana Dunes National Park. The campus has a diverse population of approximately 3,800 students and has been designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution by the U.S. Department of Education. IU Northwest emphasizes high-quality teaching, faculty and student research, and community engagement. As a student-centered campus, IU Northwest is committed to academic excellence characterized by a love of ideas and achievement in learning, discovery, creativity, and engagement. IU Northwest offers 58 undergraduate degrees and 18 graduate degree from within the School of Education, College of Arts and Sciences, College of Health and Human Services, School of Business and Economics, and a newly formed School of the Arts. IU Northwest also offers certificate programs for professionals or postgraduates seeking to advance their career and provides a home to the IU School of Medicine-Northwest-Gary, which serves as the region's only medical school. IU Northwest features a faculty of leading experts and award-winning educators. Seventy-six percent of full-time tenure-eligible faculty are tenured, with more than 88 percent having achieved the highest degree attainable in their field. The faculty have contributed to some of the world's top academic journals, exhibited their art in internationally acclaimed galleries, and been awarded Fulbright grants and other prestigious research and teaching awards.
